Hey everyone!
My name is Leonah Mason and I am the owner and operator of Leo’s Beauty Bar here in Charlotte, NC. Before we get into this…let me tell you a little about myself.
I was raised in Richmond, VA with my mother Kelly, sisters Alia and Kelsi, and my baby brothers Lewis and Logan.
As a young girl, I remember my mom being what you would call “That Girl”. She truly was, and is..let’s not get it twisted 😏, a jack of all trades. Being a mother of five sometimes you had to make something shake! And baby Kelly Elizabeth did just that! Let me explain
My love for beauty was surely fostered at a young age. I have vivid memories of my mom doing nails in the living room at 2 am, those long relaxer days with the flat wraps and two rollers on the top for “volume”, side note there was never any volume and that dryer was HOT! back to the story… Going to the shop with my mom to get her press and style. Even watching her take on cosmetology school herself, it all leads to where we are today.
When I first graduated high school my goal was to obtain my degree in dance education. After that first year of school, I immediately got bored with undergrad classes and started cosmetology school. Toured a few, liked a few but ultimately Paul Mitchell that did it for me.
After exactly one year, one week, and 1500 hours of school later I graduated from Paul Mitchell and began my cosmetic journey at Gorgeous Glo Beauty Bar. Now this place changed my life. It offered me an entirely new perspective on what it means to be a salon. For me, the idea of offering only blowouts, spray tans, and makeup seemed crazy but I knew it was exactly where I wanted to be. After a few years with the company and eventually moving forward to Charlotte’s first-ever DryBar, I decided I needed more, and in 2019 the birth of Leo’s Beauty Bar began.
This journey started on a whim. I knew what I wanted but had no knowledge on execution. Now my mom was an in-home childcare owner so I’d seen what business looked like but to do it on your own was utterly different. Needless to say, there were a lot of hiccups 😂. Times when I has to step back, humble myself and refocus, and even step away from the business completely to ensure the intentions were true, but even after all of that, I still knew there was more for Leo’s Beauty Bar and the Lord was about to force my hand.
Back in February of 2022 the salon space I was renting at sold without notice. Now don’t freak out too much…while it was a frustrating transition, it was a needed one!! After searching for new salon homes and finding nothing in budget, Holy Spirit said bump this and take Leo’s Beauty Bar home for one year, and that’s just what we did. Now don’t let the home base fool you, the shampoo was always included but there were times when I desired to give the full shop experience again. It’s something about being in a space dedicated to the craft that feels different so guess what…
Leo’s Beauty Bar is opening our very own salon space!!
On April 1st, 2023 we will be opening our doors in the hopes of creating Charlotte's “One Stop Beauty Shop”!
As you know, nothing comes for free in this world and it is only through hard work and community that we can thrive forward and achieve our dreams.
So today Leo’s Beauty Bar is humbly asking you for your help! We are looking to raise $3500 to assist with the initial cost of the salon start-up.
Your donation would help with things like:
-Salon Renovations
-Stations and Chairs
-Inventory
-Marketing
And more.
I say thank you in advance for all the love and support you have and continue to give to myself and Leo’s Beauty Bar and we are truly indebted to this community for helping us be the business we are today.
